All kinds. You don’t need to be a Google user, computer expert, or technology enthusiast to sign up. Anyone who is over the age of 18 and has ever used the internet in any way can join the program.

We want to make sure that the studies you participate in are a good fit for you. That’s why we can’t guarantee that everyone who applies will end up participating. If we do contact you, it may not be right away because we will be waiting for a study that’s a good match. We may contact you at any point as long as you remain registered.

No. All the information you provide is kept confidential in accordance with the Google Privacy Policy. We only use it to help us find suitable participants for our research studies. We, or an outside agency working on our behalf, would only contact you if we wanted to invite you to participate in a study or needed to clarify some information you provided.

Google seeks to design inclusive product experiences for everyone. To do this well, it’s important for us to get feedback from everyone. We collect this information to ensure an inclusive and diverse participant pool that is representative of our society. All of these questions are optional and your information is kept confidential in accordance with the Google Privacy Policy.

Google runs a variety of study types. You may be invited to participate in any of the following studies:

Remote usability study

In these studies, we’ll gather your feedback via a screen-sharing session with a researcher where you may be asked questions or provide feedback about a process or design. You can be almost anywhere in the world, but you’ll need to have a high-speed internet connection.

Giving feedback at a Google office

This works best for people who live close to one of our offices. Typically, you'll meet one-on-one with a Google Researcher who'll ask you some questions about your experiences with our products or technology in general.

To keep everyone safe during COVID-19, please check the invitation from your Google contact for relevant information on entering a Google office.

Long-form study

These studies require a small amount of activity every day for several days or weeks. Google researchers will ask you to respond to questions or take notes based on your experience using a product.

Surveys

For these studies, we’ll simply send you a survey form to fill out. Please note that we don’t typically offer a gift for participating in a survey.

Age Requirements

You must be at least 18 years old to create an account.

Single Registration Policy

Each person is permitted to register only once.

Geographic Accuracy

You must reside and participate from the country listed in your profile. The use of VPNs or other methods to misrepresent your location is not permitted.

Integrity

All information provided during sign-up and research screeners must be accurate, current, and truthful.

Human Authenticity

You must register personally; the use of automation, bot scripts, AI or misrepresented identities during the sign up or screening process is strictly prohibited. If we identify any of these behaviors, this will result in the immediate rejection of your application and the permanent suspension of your profile from our research database.

Direct Invitation Requirement

Research invitations and participation links are non-transferable. You must be the intended recipient of a research invite to participate. Accessing studies through forwarded invitations, social media links, or third-party platforms is not permitted.

Participation & Behavioral Standards

Authentic Participation

All research sessions must be completed by you personally without the assistance of another person, AI-generated tools, automated scripts, or synthetic media (such as voice or video cloning) unless otherwise directed by the researcher. If a researcher identifies "bad faith" participation or the use of prohibited automation during a study, we may end the session immediately and void any associated incentives. In order to maintain the quality and integrity of our research community, we continuously monitor platform activity for unauthentic behavior and automated patterns that disrupt the user experience.

Quality of Engagement

You are expected to provide thoughtful, honest, and attentive responses. Follow test instructions carefully and take the initiative to share your insights and perspectives – researchers are eager to hear your true thoughts and benefit from your attitudes, opinions, knowledge and expertise. Be honest! Providing intentionally misleading information may disqualify you from the study.

Mutual Respect

Be respectful to everyone. We maintain a zero-tolerance policy for harassment, offensive language, or any form of discriminatory behavior toward recruitment coordinators, researchers, or other participants.

Participation Setting

For remote sessions, you must be in a quiet, private, and stationary setting. Avoid participating in environments that could be distracting (such as parks, cafes, etc.) or dangerous, such as driving. You are expected to have the necessary equipment (such as a working camera and microphone, high-speed internet connection, installing specific tools, etc) as specified in the study invitation to ensure your full engagement in the session.

Reliability & Punctuality

Timely attendance is essential for the research process. If you can no longer attend a scheduled session, you must provide notice as outlined in your invitation email. Late arrivals or "no-shows" will impact your eligibility to receive incentives or participate in future studies.

Keep research information confidential.

Compliance & Consequences

Adherence to this Code of Conduct is a condition of your participation. Failure to comply with these standards may result in the following actions:

Incentives Cancellation

We reserve the right to void or withhold thank you gifts if you are found to be in violation of these rules.

Account Termination

Severe violations or failure to meet these conduct standards will result in permanent removal from our research database and all future study opportunities.

This is Google's way of providing a gift as a way of saying thanks to people who participate in research studies and help improve our products and experiences. Thank-you gift amounts are adjusted and localized for each country based on a Purchasing Power Parity (PPP) multiplier and the exchange rate at the time.

If your session is eligible for a thank-you gift, you should receive it three to five business days after completing your session. Please note that not all study participants will receive a thank-you gift.
